Blog changes

By Bebe on January 18th, 2010

I will be asking a theme designer I know for a custom made theme for this blog of mine. I haven’t had a really pretty theme here so I thought it’s about time I get one, right?

I am also promising to update this blog more. I will join memes once again. I will start with Ruby Tuesday tomorrow.

Expect more from this blog of mine!

Happy Monday people! ;)

Too much information

By Bebe on August 14th, 2009

There’s this blog that I visit from time to time. The blog author shares everything (read: every little thing!) about her life. Work, relationships, every thing. Even her sex life with her past exes and her husband!

I just have to admire the guts of some bloggers who post their photos and then proceed to talk about personal matters. TMI. Too much information, if you ask me. I love reading about her struggle in life and how she finds ways to overcome it. But the sex life and the cheating…

How do you draw the line about what to share and what’s not in a personal blog? Sure, it’s yours. You can do what you can with it. All I can do is hit the close button and I won’t be assailed by it. But then I am curious about how people regard these things.

Have you encountered this kind of blog? To tell the truth, the blog I am talking about feeds the voyeur in every one of her visitors. It’s like peeking in her house and seeing her do personal stuff. Do you feel that way with the blogs you visit? I am curious. Let me know.

And another one…

Still can’t get over this Sloganize thing. I tried again and I love what it generated for me!

I am Stuck on Vbeffa, ‘Cause Vbeffa’s Stuck on Me.

Slogans

By Bebe on June 12th, 2009

I was so amused when I found this slogan generator at another blog. I tried it using VBeffa and here’s the slogan it generated for me…

Shake the Bottle, Wake the Vbeffa.

Funny, noh? :)

Thanks to my Akismet!

I was not supposed to write about spam comments because it might just give them more notoriety. But I keep seeing the same spammer again and again. Click on the image so that you can see the spammer with the avatar/photo… This is a new way for these spammers to get past the approval system of the bloggers. They have an avatar/photo. Notice they have a sort-of web site. They post a seemingly legit comment. Except that you can see these comments again and again in different posts in your blog.

Don’t be fooled! Spam the comment right away if it gets past your Akismet or other spam eater. Then, delete it. You can even tag the IP of the spammer in your Discussions setting so that Wordpress can spam comments coming from the same IP immediately.

Ha! And you think you can get past Akismet? Thank goodness for this wonderful Wordpress spam eater!

When is the best time to post?

By Bebe on June 10th, 2009

There’s no one-size fits all rule but here are some guidelines.

  • If you post daily, try to get your posts up early in the morning. This will put you in better stead than someone who posted at 11:00 PM the night before, since their post will likely be buried in the morning by all the new posts that come out. Since their post goes to the bottom of the heap, that means your post goes on top. It’s common sense really.
  • If you post weekly or bi-weekly, pick a day of the week that isn’t already so crowded. Monday’s and Friday’s are usually bad days since there’s already a flood of activity on blogs and news wires. Tuesday and Thursday, again in the morning, seem to be the best times for most weekly or bi-weekly posters. There’s not as much competition for attention then.
  • Ignore number two and post on weekends. Why? Since many bloggers take the weekend off, it might give your blog a chance to land on the radar of bored readers looking for something new.
  • If you post monthly, don’t post on the first or last day of the month. Once again, there’s just too much competition. Any other day, using the above guidelines, should be fine.

If you’re in a situation where you can’t physically access a computer or post during these times, see if your blogging platform supports post scheduling. If so, set your posts to publish according to your desired schedule and don’t worry about it.

If you blog in a field where there’s some specific reason to post at a time that’s dictated by circumstances, do what you have to do. Also check your own statistic pages to see when readers are most active on your blog. Your audience may live by a different set of rules.

I normally post on Sunday mornings. How about you?

Tweaking

By Bebe on September 1st, 2007

Tweaking themes is something that I truly love doing. I download a theme I like and tweak it. Some theme authors allow it. If they do, I pick their theme and explore and tweak to my heart’s content. Almost all the time, I love the result. Friends ask me to tweak their themes as well and I gladly accept the task as long as I am free to tackle it head on.

My suggestion to bloggers out there: don’t be afraid to explore what you can customize with your themes. There is an endless possibilities, believe me.

So I am definitely tweaking this theme real soon.

How about you? Do you also tweak your themes?
