Traffic is very important in a web site or a blog. This will measure the popularity of your blog and how well people like it. If people keep coming back, it means you are doing something right and you have to keep it up. Or come up with something better. If your traffic is poor, then you need to do something about it. You do not want your web site or blog to rot, right?

But how can you measure the traffic of your web site or blog?

You need to use a Free Hit Counter! Yes, use a hit counter to be able to track how many visitors your web site has received and post this number visible for everyone to see. Taking care of the future

Posted under Blogging 101 No Comments

My boss has several business scattered all over the country. He is mostly into real estate development but he also has other businesses in different fields like advertising (graphics company), food (a well-known fastfood), and some other little business. One of these little business was doing quite well. But because he is more focused on the bigger companies, he neglected to get a good accountant for it. The accountant forgot to remind my boss about the Comprehensive General Liability insurance and Property insurance of the company. My boss severed his ties with the insurance company all his businesses were affiliated with. The insurance company did not deliver so they got the axe.

Unfortunately, that little business he had was ransacked by unscrupulous men. Robbers stole most of the machineries in the company. It was an inside job, perpetrated by the robbers with the security guard of the office. What is sad about this is that, there was no existing insurance that time and nothing in the office was covered with a policy. Not even the photocopier and printer cum fax machine!

Now, my boss asked me to take over the company for now. I am tasked to get a Business Insurance for it. And I am looking into different quotes that I got from 2Insure2Less.com, a site wherein you can get free business insurance quotes for businesses nationwide. Go check out the site now!

When is the best time to post?

Posted under Blogging 101 No Comments

There’s no one-size fits all rule but here are some guidelines.

  • If you post daily, try to get your posts up early in the morning. This will put you in better stead than someone who posted at 11:00 PM the night before, since their post will likely be buried in the morning by all the new posts that come out. Since their post goes to the bottom of the heap, that means your post goes on top. It’s common sense really.
  • If you post weekly or bi-weekly, pick a day of the week that isn’t already so crowded. Monday’s and Friday’s are usually bad days since there’s already a flood of activity on blogs and news wires. Tuesday and Thursday, again in the morning, seem to be the best times for most weekly or bi-weekly posters. There’s not as much competition for attention then.
  • Ignore number two and post on weekends. Why? Since many bloggers take the weekend off, it might give your blog a chance to land on the radar of bored readers looking for something new.
  • If you post monthly, don’t post on the first or last day of the month. Once again, there’s just too much competition. Any other day, using the above guidelines, should be fine.

If you’re in a situation where you can’t physically access a computer or post during these times, see if your blogging platform supports post scheduling. If so, set your posts to publish according to your desired schedule and don’t worry about it.

If you blog in a field where there’s some specific reason to post at a time that’s dictated by circumstances, do what you have to do. Also check your own statistic pages to see when readers are most active on your blog. Your audience may live by a different set of rules.

I normally post on Sunday mornings. How about you?

Uses of a blog.

Posted under Blogging 101 No Comments

There are many, actually. But here are some that I can think of:

  • Starting conversations.
  • Engaging an audience in a two-way conversation (as long as it doesn’t have to be real-time).
  • Alternaive publishing sources.
  • Raising money or awareness.
  • Answering critics.
  • Announcing products.
  • Establish expertise.
  • To supplement other communications methods.
  • Team building.
  • Tech or customer support.

These are just some of the ways in which people use blogs. How about you? Do you have an interesting or unique way to use a blog?
